Cycling is climate protection - Teckbote 14.04.2023 Critical mass" is a worldwide movement: Cyclists meet - seemingly spontaneously - and draw attention to the need to strengthen cycling by riding together through city centers. In Kirchheim, however, all 28 tours so far have not been spontaneous, but announced, registered and accompanied by two police vehicles. At the first "Cycling for the traffic turnaround" in July 2019, more than 150 cyclists rode along. At the time, the inspiration for the first action had come, among other things, from the climate policy initiative outlined by Transport Minister Winfried Hermann in an interview with the Südwestpresse in July 2019. Hermann had criticized that greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector had risen. It was "high alert" and time to "finally take measures to change that."
All kindergartens, all elementary school and all secondary I schools were invited. There were then about 60 participants, including about 25 children. The weather situation was unclear, it had rained in the morning and rain was also announced for the afternoon. However, it remained dry before, during and after the trip. The execution was also good. At the beginning Heinrich Brinker welcomed and - involving the children - addressed mainly the children - Martin Schmid then gave a very short organizational note. At the end, all participants gathered briefly on the market square - and the children had the opportunity to test ride the penny-farthing. All in all, a good start to advocate safe and independent mobility for children.
